BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Men's Swimming and Diving Team leads six other teams at the Calvin Winter Invitational after day two and has posted 1,168 points. The Wildcats are ahead of second place, Grand Valley State University by 52 points.
Sophomore Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary / Bolyai Janos) led the men with two victories. He captured the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 47.55 and followed it by posting a 20.16 winning time in the 50-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Jonas Reinhold (Nienhagen, Germany) claimed the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.27. Grantas Dapkus (Kaunas, Lithuania / Kaunas Saule) touched in second place as the pair both qualified for an NCAA B-cut.
Junior Ryan Knox-Leonard (South Wales, Australia / Toronto) also finished with a first-place for NMU by winning the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 3:58.56.
The men's team will return to action Saturday for the final day of the invitational. The preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. while the finals will begin at 6 p.m.
