BAY CITY, Mich. -- For the fourth time this season, Northern Michigan University's Women's Swimming and Diving Team had a member earn Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, as junior Angela Probstfeld (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) earned the honor after an impressive diving performance. Both the women's and men's team have also moved up the rankings of the College Swimming and Diving Association of America poll.
In Saturday's meet with the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, Probstfeld set two pool records and two school records in the two diving events. In 11 dives of the one-meter event, she posted a score of 477.07 to win and set the pool and school record.
During the three-meter dives, she set the PEIF Pool and NMU school record with a score of 522.00 on 11 dives.
Her efforts helped the Wildcats to their 11th dual meet victory of the season with a 188-90 victory over the Pointers. On Friday, Probstfeld finished second at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay with a score of 271.57 on six dives in three-meter diving.
Released today, the women's team is currently ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Poll. Undefeated on the season, the team has jumped up from their preseason ranking of 17th, aided by a victory at then #5 Grand Valley State University.
On the men's side, NMU is ranked tenth nationally. The men are 6-1 this season in dual meets, with their lone defeat coming to sixth-ranked Grand Valley State.
The NMU Swimming and Diving Teams return to action November 30-December 2 to compete in the Calvin College Invitational.
