Northern Michigan's Martin Garners CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan's Adam Martin was voted to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ At-Large Team, the organization announced Thursday.

A computer science/mathematics double major, Martin graduated on May 6 with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. He will continue his skiing career with the Craftsbury Green Racing Project.

This season, Martin swept the individual titles at the NCAA Central Region Championships and captured All-American accolades in the 10K classic and 20K freestyle at the NCAA Skiing Championships.

Martin also placed fifth in the skiathlon and the 50K freestyle at the U.S. Distance Championships and represented the U.S. at the World U-23 Ski Championships for the second-straight year.

Earlier this season, Martin received the NCAA Skiing Elite 90 award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site for each NCAA championship. He was the first Wildcat to earn this prestigious honor, which was established as the Elite 88 award in 2009–10.

In 2016, Martin was named to both the CoSIDA Academic All-District™ At-Large Team and the Academic All-America® At-Large First Team. He was the 20th Wildcat to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and the second skier to earn a spot on the At-Large First Team.

As a junior, Martin earned All-American honors in the 10K freestyle and 20K classic, placed on the podium in the 15K classic at the U.S. Skiing Championships and finished in the top 10 in three events at the U.S. Long Distance Championships.
