  LAST WEEK

NMU ended their eight-match unbeaten streak and their five-match shutout streak when they fell, 2-1, to Northwood University on Wednesday. Sophomore forward Ben Hoffman (Petoskey, Michigan) scored the lone goal for the Wildcats, his fourth of the season, with help from senior defender Kevin Hoof (Grove, Minnesota).

Friday's match with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside came down to the final seconds when the Rangers netted the lone goal of the match with four seconds remaining. The Wildcats faced 16 shots from the UWP offense, including six on-goal.

  STAT LEADERS

A pair of Wildcats have surpassed the double-digit points mark with senior forward Sam Popp (Northville, Michigan) leading the way with 12 points. He also leads the team with five goals, while junior midfielder Callum Olpin (Norwich, England) has 11 points and is tied for the team lead with three assists. Junior defender Edgar Astorga (Chicago, Illinois) and junior midfielder Luca Lippert (Langen, Germany) also have three assists.

Olpin is one of two Wildcats with four goals, the second-most on the team. He also leads the squad with three game-winning goals on the season. Hoffman is the other student-athlete to net for scores in 2018.

   LOCKDOWN DEFENSE

NMU has improved significantly on the defensive end in their third season of competition. The Wildcats have cut their goals allowed in half in 2018 and are allowing just 0.70 goals per match. A five-match shutout streak was one of the highlights of October with the Wildcat defense holding their opponents scoreless for 522:55 over the course of 7 matches.

Freshman goalkeeper Valentin Kliebe (Hessisch Lichtenau, Germany) has earned the start between the posts in the last eight matches for the Wildcats. He leads the team and is near the national leaderboard with a 0.52 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.

  SENIOR LEADERS

The first seniors in program history will graduate in 2018-19 after joining the inaugural team three years ago. Senior midfielder Carson Burmeister (Grayling, Michigan), senior forward Nic Harenda (Waukesha, Wisconsin), Kevin Hoof, and Sam Popp will be honored prior to Sunday's match for Senior Day.

  NMU VERSUS SAGINAW VALLEY ST.

Both teams met less than two weeks ago in University Center, Michigan and played to a scoreless draw. It was the first time in NMU program history that the Wildcats had not fallen to the Cardinals.

  NMU VERSUS ASHLAND

The Wildcats are 2-1-2 all-time against the Eagles including a road victory earlier this season. NMU scored a goal in the 27th-minute of play to continue what is now a four-match unbeaten streak against AU.
