Weekly Notes:

Road Woes Continue. A yellow card in the box doomed the Wildcats in the matchup with Northwood University on Friday. The Timberwolves found the back of the net on the resulting penalty kick in the 81st-minute of action for the games only score. NMU got off to an early lead on Sunday against the No. 10 Cardinals. Junior defender Kevin Hoof (Grove, Minnesota) found a goal in the 23rd-minute, but SVSU knotted it up just before the half. The Cardinals found a pair of goal in the second half while shutting down the NMU offense for a 3-1 victory.

Ties for the team lead. Popp holds a share of the team lead in both goals and assists on the season. Freshman forward Birkir Baldursson (Kopavogur, Iceland) netted his third goal of 2017 last weekend to give him a share of the lead with Popp. Popp's sits tied for the team lead with three assists as both he and junior forward Nic Harenda (Waukesha, Wisconsin) have three on the year. The duo is currently tied for fifth most in the GLIAC.

Torelli's Season High. Sophomore goalkeeper Filippo Torelli (Parma, Italy) was credited with a season high eight saves in Friday's loss versus Northwood. Despite the loss it was the second-most in Torelli's career. Torelli added a pair on Sunday while facing 18 total shots, five on-goal.

Poggi enters his second year: NMU Head Coach David Poggi is in his second season as the head coach of the Wildcats, producing a record of 8-18-3 overall.

NMU versus Davenport. The two teams played each other earlier this season for the first time in either program's history as this is the first season for DU as a member of the NCAA Division II and GLIAC.  The Panthers earned a 2-0 victory in the matchup after a pair of late goals.

NMU versus Purdue-Northwest. The two teams played each other earlier this season for the first time in either program's history as this is the first season for PNW as a member of the NCAA Division II and GLIAC.  The Pride earned a 2-1 victory in the matchup in extreme heat in Hammond, Indiana.
