MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Men's Soccer (1-0-1, 0-0-0 GLAIC) will host a pair of non-conference matches this weekend when Upper Iowa University (2-0, 0-0 MIAA) travels to Marquette for the Wildcats home-opener on Thursday at 4 p.m., while NMU will take on Marygrove College Sunday at noon.

Wildcats undefeated in opening weekend: NMU opened 2017 with a 1-0 victory over region opponent University of Indianapolis who was picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in their preseason poll. Sophomore forward David Feldmann (Hamilton, Montana) found the back of the net in the 78th minute to secure the victory. On Saturday, the Wildcats opened with a 2-0 advantage after 35 minutes of play on scores by sophomore midfielder Sveinn Karlsson (Ajureyrim Iceland) and freshman forward Birkir Baldursson (Kopavogur, Iceland) A goal in the 59th minute and another in the 89th by the University of Missouri-St. Louis forced a double-overtime time.
Feldmann Fuels Offense: After the opening weekend, Feldmann leads NMU with three points after two games. Feldmann scored the game-winning goal against Indianapolis, while he assisted on Karlsson's score on Saturday against UMSL. Feldmann had four points on two goals a season ago.
Torelli impresses between the posts: Sophomore goalkeeper Filippo Torelli (Parma, Italy) played all 200 minutes in goal for the Wildcats over the weekend earning his first clean sheet of his career Thursday against Indianapolis. After allowing a pair of goals on Saturday in the tie, Torelli's goals against average increased to 0.9 through the season's first two games.
Poggi enters his second year: NMU Head Coach David Poggi is in his second season as the head coach of the Wildcats, producing a record of 6-10-3 overall.
NMU versus Upper Iowa: It will be the first matchup in for the two schools in men's soccer. The Peacocks are 2-0 defeating the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis University over the opening weekend.
NMU versus Marygrove: It will be the first matchup for the two schools in men's soccer. The Mustangs are 2-2 in 2017, splitting their contests in back-to-back weekends.
