WCHA Honors 10 Wildcats with Scholar-Athlete Award

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.—The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced that 10 Northern Michigan University Men's Ice Hockey student-athletes were honored with Scholar-Athlete Awards for the 2017-18 season.

A total of 142 student-athletes were honored across the 11 men's and eight women's programs included two Wildcat sophomores, six juniors and a trio of seniors. Senior forwards Zach Diamantoni (Montgomery, New Jersey)Robbie Payne (Gaylord, Michigan), and Filip Starzynski (Warsaw, Poland) earned the award for the third time, doing so in each season that they were eligible.

To earn recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, conference-member student-athletes mist have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his/her overall GPA is at least 3.50 for all terms at his or her present institution. Freshmen and first-year transfers were not eligible to receive this award.
