MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Men's Ice Hockey (20-11-2, 18-6-2-2 WCHA) rose in the latest USCHO.com poll despite not competing over the penultimate series of the regular season. The Wildcats moved up one spot to No. 16 in the poll with 222 points.
The Wildcats rose to No. 16 after their off week. NMU last played two weekends ago when they earned a Western Collegiate Hockey Association Sweep over the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Junior forward Denver Pierce (Sault Ste. Marie) was the hero in the first game netting an overtime goal to seal a 2-1 Wildcat Victory. NMU finished the weekend cruising to a 4-1 win in the second contest.
In the USA Today/College Hockey Magazine Poll, NMU fell outside the top-15 with eight points.
To begin the final series of the regular season, Michigan Technological University will come to the Berry on Friday, February 23 for a 7 p.m. start. NMU will head to Houghton, Michigan the following night for a road contest against the Huskies to end the regular season. Four Wildcat seniors will be honored prior to Friday's game in the Berry for their time spent in Marquette.
NMU will also host a first round WCHA Playoff series in the Berry Events Center. Tickets for the first-round series are on sale now through all NMU Ticket Outlets. Games during the first-round series will be played on Friday and Saturday, as well as Sunday, if necessary. All game times will be 7 p.m.
