Wildcats Come Back to Earn Tie

KALAMAZOO, Mich.  – In the second game of the their two-game series the Northern Michigan University Wildcats and the Western Michigan University Broncos skated to a 2-2 tie in non-conference collegiate hockey action on Sunday, November 10. The Wildcats leave Kalamazoo with a win and a tie on the weekend after defeating the Broncos 5-4 on Saturday, Nov. 9.  Northern Michigan is 4-5-1 on year while Western Michigan is 3-3-2. 

The Broncos opened scoring on the night with a power play goal by Nolan LaPorte at 12:46 of the first period.  Western Michigan used their man-advantage again in the second period when Shane Berschbach put the broncos up 2-0 on a power-play goal at 7:13. These goals left the Wildcats with a two goal deficit for the second straight night.

Senior Reed Seckel got the Wildcats on the score board when he scored at the 18:39 mark of the second period.  Junior Luke Eibler assisted on the goal. Senior Stephan Vigier scored the equalizing goal at 17:13 of the third period when he scored his tenth goal of the season from juniors Mitch Jones and Ryan Daugherty.  Vigier's goal kept his goal streak alive at eight games. 

Redshirt-freshman Mathias Dahlstrom stopped 26 of the Broncos 28 shots on the night in 64:53 played.  Bronco goaltender Frank Slubowski finished the game with 25 saves on 27 shots. The Broncos finished the night 2 of 6 on the power play.  The Wildcats were 1 of 5 with the man-advantage. 

The Wildcats will take the week off as it is their WCHA bye-week (Nov. 15-16) before playing host to Alabama-Huntsville (Nov. 22-23) and Ferris State (Nov. 29-30).
