MIDLAND, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Men's Golf team played at the Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan for the Northwood University Men's Invitational and finished sixth out of 10 teams.
Senior Kurtis Fontinha (Penticton, B.C.) led the Wildcats as he tied for 18th place. On Sunday, he shot a 73 and followed with a 79 for his second round of the day. He then posted a score of 73 Monday for a final of 225.
Tied for 21st was sophomore Carter Mason (Negaunee, Mich.), who posted an 80 on his opening round then posted back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish at 226. Senior Chris Black (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) notched rounds of 82 and 81 before finishing with the third-best round of the entire event, a one under par 69, giving him a total of 232.
Senior Kyle Pouliot (Gladstone, Mich.) tallied a total of 236 as his rounds of 80, 77 and 79 put him in a tie for 44th. Freshman Scott Spyra (Spring Grove, Ill.), tied for 54th, shot rounds of 83, 76 and 84 for a final of 243.
As a team, the Wildcats finished with their best finish of the season, coming in sixth out of 10 teams.
