FINDLAY, Ohio – Northern Michigan University Men's Golf competed in the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational hosted by Findlay University. The Wildcats tied for 15th in a crowded and talented field.
Senior Chris Black (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) led the NMU squad, shooting a final score of 227 to finish tied for 38th. The senior shot rounds of 74 and 81 on the first day and concluded the event with a round of 72.
Senior Kurtis Fontinha (Penticton, B.C.) placed in a tie for 52nd, shooting 77, 76 and 77 to post a total of 230. Close behind was freshman Scott Spyra (Spring Grove, Ill.), who's final score of 233 put him 68th. Spyra notched rounds of 76, 76, and 81.
Rounding out the NMU team was sophomore Carter Mason (Negaunee, Mich.) and senior Kyle Pouliot (Gladstone, Mich.). Mason tied for 69th place after his rounds of 80, 81 and 73 gave him a final of 134. Pouliot shot 74, 80 and 82 for a final score of 236, finishing tied for 75th.
As a team, the Wildcats tied for 15th place in a field of 18 teams.
NMU will return to action on Sunday, October 6 for the Northwood Invitational, played at the Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan. The two-day event will wrap up Monday, October 7.
