COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Northern Michigan men's basketball team was downed by Ohio Dominican, 74-62, Thursday night at Alumni Hall.
Will Carius ended the night with his third double-double, collecting 16 points and 11 boards. Naba Echols also came away with 16 points. Sam Taylor was the third Wildcat who collected double digit points with 10.
The Panthers opened the scoring with a jump-shot and three-pointer by Hasan Varence to build a 5-0 lead. Echols came back with his own three-pointer and a jump-shot from Carius tied the game.
The rest of the half saw similar play with Ohio Dominican and Northern Michigan tying five more times. With 32 seconds remaining in the first, Isaiah Johnson lifted the Wildcats to a 31-28 lead with a three-point shot.
Northern Michigan held onto its lead until the ninth minute of the second half when Sam Hickey sank a three-point shot to bring the score to 44-44.
The Wildcats regained the lead again right away with two free-throws from Carius. The second half was much like the first with two more ties in just over a minute.
At 9:20, Shemar Waugh made a jump-shot that brought the Panthers to a 50-48 lead that they would slowly build on.
Hickey collected 27 points for the Panthers, sinking eight of 13 three-point shots attempted.
The Wildcats, now 2-5 (0-2 GLIAC), continue their weekend on the road against Lake Erie on Saturday at 3 p.m.
